Project 171, 1 of 100 x Trevor Jackson x Stereo MC's! All good things take time and we've been wanting to collaborate with Trevor for long enough, buzzing to finally release this incredible slice of Stereo MC's history.
'The Stereo MC’s were a very different kind of UK rap band, and they deserved distinct visuals that reflected that. Their mentality was unique, both musically and attitude wise they attempted to elevate the art form in everything they did.
At a time when gangsta rap was emerging and lyrical content (as well as imagery) within Hip Hop increasingly started glorifying sex and violence the Stereo MC’s alongside their US friends & musical counterparts the Native Tongues set out to positively enlighten, inspire and elevate minds.
This graphic from 1990, originally appeared as a small sticker on the bands Lost in Music single release, replicating the parental advisory sticker appearing on more and more releases from that period. As much a critique of moral decline as a celebration of positivity it represents a very special moment in time for me and an era of work I feel incredibly proud of and very blessed to be part of.
