Pre-order Special Edition. Another cracking collaboration with a beautiful album from Clare Archibald and Kinbrae.

“There is no single word evocation of a place, of the situation, of its people,” says Clare Archibald on ‘Excavate Of Other (The Unknowing)'. It serves as a frisson inducing modus operandi for Birl Of Unmap, her new collaboration with Kinbrae. Co-released by Texas’ Full Spectrum Records and Scotland’s The Dark Outside, the tape sees the trio use poetry, fragments of testimony and a lilting soundtrack of strings, brass and earthy atmospherics to decode what turns a space into a place." - The Quietus, February 2022

'Birl of Unmap is about unmapping the layers of a place, the connections between people, the human and more than human, and what it might mean to co-exist in a specific environment through time. Adding a visual, material layer that people can wear as they move through different spaces connected by the cosmic elements of the cover art by Niall McCormack appeals. The t-shirt takes the former mining/Charles Jencks land art site in Fife of the album to other places with minimum environmental impact, offering a new layer of expression and connection.

The album is the creation of a new, third space coming from our individual bodies of work, a true collaboration, and the ethos and community building of 1 of 100 very much fits with this and our creative approach. I wore a 1 of 100 Dark Outside T shirt for the duration of a 24 hour sound installation I did in Galloway Forest last year for Sanctuary Lab, and then the Dark Outside co-released our album. The Birl continues.' - Clare Archibald
