Independent as F*** is Ben's brilliant, lovingly researched deep dive into a decade of underground hip-hop, 1995 to 2005, when a generation of rappers and producers got so fed up with the major label machine that they just... did it themselves. MF DOOM, El-P, Madlib, Kool Keith. Artists who wore their independence as a badge of honour and, in doing so, made some of the best music of their generation. Chuck D, who we've had the privilege of collaborating with, called Ben "an archivist of the highest regard." That's good enough for us. The title works on every level.
